Meet Rev. Dr. Imani-Sheila
Experienced Spiritual Director and Teacher
Rev. Dr. Imani-Sheila Newsome-Camara graduated from Virginia Union University and from the University of Vermont with degrees in Education. As an Assistant Professor of Education at Simmons College in Boston, Rev. Imani acknowledged her call to Christian ministry. She preached her trial sermon St Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Cambridge,MA. Then she enrolled at Boston University School of Theology, ultimately graduating with a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Psychology and Doctorate in Church History focused on Black Clergy Leadership Education. Originally ordained in the African Methodist Episcopal Church she is now a United Methodist Elder.

Rev. Imani became the Associate Dean of Marsh Chapel at Boston University and then became Dean for Student Affairs at the School of Theology, the first African American to hold a deanship in the school’s history. As Assistant Professor of Church History, she taught Preaching, Church History, Spiritual Formation, and Black Church Studies such as Womanist Theology, and Black Clergy Leadership Education. Rev. Imani brought her expertise in pastoral leadership and now serves as Pastor of Greenwood Memorial United Methodist Church in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
